The Sanatana notion, practice and celebration of festivals has its roots in our Yajnas, Yagas and Satras. In its fundamental conception, a Yajna is a grand, mammoth carnival of sharing. Where the entire community, village, town, and city becomes One and willingly invests its collective labour and resources for the benefit of all. There is joy in this willing investment and sharing. This sharing in turn multiplied wealth and pushed the boundaries of prosperity. When this was repeated over time, it developed its own grammar, which is (incorrectly) known in English as ritual. And when this was done over countless generations, it seeped into the DNA of an entire nation and supplied it its philosophical, spiritual, moral, and ethical frameworks. The natural flowering of this progression was the evolution of festivals.
See how simple it is to understand?
Think about it: it is only in Sanatana Bharata that you can find something called the Rashtra Yajna, timeless in its conception, application and relevance.
Take a festival at random. Sankranti. It is celebrated simultaneously at these levels: the individual, the family, the community, and the nation. The name of the festival, some nitty-gritties of its celebration, the special delicacies prepared on the occasion, and such other unique facets might differ across different regions in Bharatavarsha but every single Santana festival is celebrated at the same time across this sacred Sanatana soil. This distinctive combination of localized national celebration is exclusive only to Santana Dharma. It is a remarkable celebratory fusion of fun-filled piety and cultural unity that needs no Guru, no central God or book for guidance much less command.
And what is the other commonality that we witness in these festivals? A sense of relaxed joy and seamless community participation, which at least for the duration of the festival, helps set aside individual egos in exchange for savouring collective mirth. All in a voluntary spirit. To recall Acharya V. Raghavan’s memorable[i] words,
Hindu India is not pensive or pessimistic India; it is festive India…The ancient Hindu lived a rich life and this life was not more religious than beautiful…into that festival was woven all his art…Such life was rooted in the soil; native manure gave it fillip.
Contrast this with say, the Eid al-Adha or Bakrid that concluded yesterday. Or even the deadlier Ramzan. What has been our lived experience on these occasions, which has only gotten grimmer with each passing decade? Large police contingents deployed in every Muslim-dominated locality in our cities and increasingly, even in our Tier-B cities?
And because it is still in the news, take the case of Kashmir. No less than the Prime Minister of India, a leader as powerful as Narendra Modi himself has to make an appeal to “celebrate Eid peacefully” in Kashmir. No less than the top gun of our Intelligence apparatus, Ajit Doval has to physically remain in Kashmir during Eid. Or consider this headline:
Why does one even feel the need to explicitly spell out, “Eid celebrated peacefully?”
Remember, Eid al-Adha and Ramzan are festivals. As we saw earlier, festivals are supposed to be about piety, prayer, devotion, fun, frolic, and food? So why does the Indian state need to deploy police contingents in Muslim-majority localities and in the case of Kashmir, our army? And why is this common sight on these pious, festive occasions accepted as normal by Hindus instead of understanding them for what they actually are: lethal warnings staring at them in plain sight?
Your real-life experience is the best verification and proof.
What are the typical sights that greet you when you travel in the bylanes and gullies of say, Shivajinagar, Russel Market, Beef Market, Cockburn road, Sultanpalya in Bangalore and their equivalents in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad…during these festivals? Heaps of hides and skins of goats, lambs, and sheep dripping blood after they’ve been slaughtered using Allah-approved procedures and kept outside the steps of say, a mosque, for sale. Mounds of meat randomly scattered by the wayside, animal blood…either dried up or freely flowing on the footpath…animal carcasses that suddenly stare at you when your vehicle takes a turn into the un-navigable alleys of these areas…This is the common scene in public. It is not for the faint-hearted to step into the gory world of the slaughterhouses in these precincts.
At night, another common, verifiable spectacle welcomes us. A spectacle that has escalated and multiplied in the last thirty years. That of the Pious Bikers in these localities. Three, sometimes four, youths aged anywhere between eight to thirty five, on all kinds of two-wheelers flouting every single traffic rule…wheeling, racing, zig-zagging, screaming, threatening, blocking traffic…in short, dominating the roads with the unspoken threat of unleashing mob donnybrook. This is temporary and permanent territorial takeover. This is also the real-life meaning of the “lethal warning” I alluded to earlier in this piece.
It is all of this: it is territorial takeover. It is a lethal warning. But more critically, it is a naked demonstration of psychological victory of what Rishi Sita Ram Goel calls the “organized gangsterism of Islam” over Hindus. Perhaps the most demoralized and defeat-accepting people in the whole world are urban Hindus living in India. The fact that no less than a lakh troops of the nation’s defence force has to be concentrated in tiny Kashmir illustrates the national dimension of this psychological victory. Peaceful Eid in Kashmir. Or not. Sample this news item on 11 August 2019.
Dilbag Singh, the Jammu and Kashmir director general of police, said that between 1,000 and 1,500 people were returning from praying at mosques on Friday when “some miscreants” started pelting stones at security officials.
And yet, despite this readily verifiable physical evidence, our secular theorists still maintain the filthy fiction about Dara Hua Musalman (Scared Muslim). And a overwhelming majority of these fiction-peddlers unfortunately have Hindu names.
So why does this happen and happen repeatedly? The answer is in the core doctrine of Islam which mandates Muslims to be in a constant state of war-preparedness in a land full of Kaffirs. It is precisely this core doctrine that’s effectively drilled in during Friday “prayers.” Friday after Friday. Throughout the history of Islam. Anywhere in the world. The selfsame history shows that almost every attack, assault and wanton murder of Hindus at the hands of Muslims have happened after these Friday “prayers.”
Take a relatively recent case. Nine innocent Hindus were massacred by a bloodthirsty Muslim mobs on the Marad beach in the summer of 2003 in a space of just ten minutes. These Hindus were sitting in front of a temple. The attack happened on a Friday evening after the “prayers.” During the investigation that followed, a huge cache of swords, deadly weapons and country bombs were recovered from a nearby mosque. The reason this Friday-indoctrination works with such aplomb is because of the unshakeable hold of the Ulema over the Muslim community. Constraints of space prohibit me from exploring this in any detail so it’s sufficient to point you to Arun Shourie’s excellent The World of Fatwas. Also, for a comprehensive, sickening list of nearly all incidents of unprovoked murder and assault against Hindus at the hands of Muslim mobs, I urge the gentle reader to refer to the great compilation, Riots and Wrongs.
Suffice to say that Muslims are the most tragic victims and lifelong prisoners of Islam.
But how did Hindus come to this pass?
As always, history is our best guide.
Till the end of the 19th century, Hindus had largely never accepted Islam as a religion. In the inherited collective civilizational and cultural consciousness, Hindus never regarded Muslim rule as a native dispensation. They revolted against and recovered their lost territories and reestablished and rejuvenated their customs and traditions at every available opportunity. However, beginning roughly with an ill-informed and cowardly duffer named Bhagwan Das and followed by Mohandas Gandhi, the toxin of Sarvadharma Sama Bhava was injected into the Hindu psyche like a civilization-killing drip irrigation scheme. Needless, after Mohandas Gandhi’s unchallenged suzerainty over the Indian National Congress, the Hindu psyche was awash with this toxin on an industrial scale. The drip irrigation had transformed into a flood that engulfed huge sections of Hindus. They haven’t recovered from it. Proof: from Sarvadharma Samabhava and Hindu-Muslim bhai bhai to today’s Hindus openly supporting terrorists in Kashmir.
Think about the Partition. A good portion of even “educated,” “scholarly” and “elite” Hindus never gave serious thought about the role of Islam in causing it. Jinnah would have never succeeded so wildly but for the existence of the Ulema that supplied him with a readymade force of mobs that aided him…as Acharya R.C. Majumdar says, it was Jinnah’s cult of violence and not politics or negotiation that created Pakistan. Despite this bloody genocide of Hindus, the Gandhi-infected timorous Hindu psyche had learnt nothing. “Independent” India’s Constituent Assembly mourned Jinnah’s death.
Nothing more needs to be added regarding Nawab Nehru and his progeny and their Communist courtiers who together and variously, ran a 55-year-long Government. In reality, it was a highly profitable catering service whose menu consisted of the choicest delicacies of Hindu traditions, customs, institutions, practices, and festivals, hygienically halal-ed. The most visible and most violent instance of this feasting was the barbaric and tragic fate of the Kashmiri Hindus.
Once again, Rishi Sita Ram Goel provides a vivid explanation of how this catering service was run in real life. The essay is titled Islam Imposes Emergency on India. It should be made prescribed reading for all Hindus. Here’s an excerpt:
The Indian intelligentsia…is very well aware of what Emergency means…If any member of this intelligentsia is asked what he thinks of that Emergency, the answer is always a loud disapproval. But the same intelligentsia is not even aware that Islam has imposed an Emergency on India, so that everyone has the perfect “liberty” to praise its Allah, its prophet, its scriptures, its history, and its heroes but gets into trouble if he so much as says that Islam should answer some questions.
Sita Ram Goel wrote this in 1998. A decade after the genocide and expulsion of Kashmiri Hindus from their homeland. Ever since, Bharatavarsha suffered a decade-long fatal regime of darkness helmed by the twin forces of Islamism and Missionary parasitism whose uncrowned ruler was an Italian. And now, after the Jihadi Article 370 and 35A have been chucked, we have a former IAS officer who tweets this:
Islam’s emergency on Bharatavarsha remains.
Peaceful Eid in Kashmir.
