A fundamental element in the Kumbh Mela is the fact that it is a Tirtha Yatra. Tirtha Yatra is the timeless expression of Hindu piety on two moving feet. If Prayag is the Tirtha-Raja, the Kumbh Mela is the Mela-Raja, the undisputed monarch of all Tirtha Yatras.
