[Episode #92] How the Pedophile Missionary Verrier Elwin Enabled the Christianisation of the North East

In 1940, the Christian Missionary Verrier Elwin, then 37, married Kosi, a 13-year-old Raj Gond student from his school in Madhya Pradesh. He turned his sexual life with her into field notes, then abandoned her.

Years later Nehru made the same Verrier Elwin the Anthropological Adviser for the North-East Frontier. Elwin was the architect of a policy that kept the region isolated while the rest of India built dams, roads, and universities.

Elwin’s “pristine isolation” doctrine kept the North East tribal communities separate from the national fold. General Cariappa argued for integration. Elwin argued for a museum. The result was decades of segregation, missionary replacement of the Hindu-rooted faith, and a region that remained in the dark.

The episode also follows the older Hindu civilisational thread the official story ignored: Jagannath at Puri, the Badu priests of Lingaraja, tribal and Vedic lineages sharing the same shrine — Sanatana Dharma’s genius for assimilating without erasure.
